Pioneer Power-Infra Limited (PPIL) is a purpose-built energy infrastructure company incorporated on 29 December 2010, with a clear intent to establish, develop, and operate power plants across India and international markets. Headquartered in Hyderabad, Telangana, PPIL brings together deep sector expertise, strategic global partnerships, and a strong commitment to sustainable, cleaner energy generation.

PPIL’s vision is rooted in delivering reliable, efficient, and environmentally responsible energy solutions — building the infrastructure that powers communities, industries, and economies.

PPIL was founded by Mr. K. Sudhir Rao and Mr. K. Suhan Rao, two seasoned entrepreneurs with a proven track record in establishing and scaling large industrial enterprises. Their earlier venture, Pioneer Distilleries Limited (PDL), was successfully listed on both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), delivering a tenfold increase in value between 1999 and 2010, reflecting their ability to create lasting shareholder value.

Following a successful exit from PDL, the promoters turned their attention to India’s rapidly growing power sector and promoted PPIL.
Pursuant to its strategic vision, PPIL developed its flagship project, Pioneer Gas Power Limited (PGPL), a state-of-the-art 388 MW Gas-Based Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) located in Maharashtra, India, in strategic partnership with Korea Western Power Company Limited (KOWEPO) a Government of South Korea entity that holds a 38.5% equity stake in PGPL. The project was successfully commissioned in July 2016, marking a key milestone in the Company’s infrastructure development journey.
The plant was commissioned in July 2016 at a final project cost of approximately ₹1,700 Crore (US$ 272 Mn @ 62 Conversion rate), underscoring the scale and ambition of the undertaking. The plant is a landmark achievement in India’s private power sector and stands as a testament to PPIL’s capacity to conceive, fund, and deliver large-scale energy infrastructure on time and at scale.
This strategic partnership KOWEPO brings not only capital, but also access to world-class operational expertise, international governance standards, and cross-border credibility, strengthening PPIL’s position as a globally-oriented energy infrastructure developer.

Building on the success of PGPL, PPIL is actively pursuing its next phase of growth by identifying and developing power infrastructure opportunities in high-potential international energy markets. The promoters have set their sights on the African continent, with Ghana and Mozambique identified as priority target markets.
Both Ghana and Mozambique present compelling opportunities for power sector investment. Ghana is one of West Africa’s fastest-growing economies, with significant and growing demand for reliable electricity to support industrial and commercial expansion. Mozambique, meanwhile, is emerging as a major natural gas hub in Southern Africa, with vast offshore gas reserves that present significant downstream power generation potential. PPIL’s international expansion strategy is underpinned by the following core principles:

Environmental responsibility is embedded in PPIL’s operational DNA. PGPL’s gas-based combined cycle technology delivers significantly lower carbon emissions per unit of electricity generated compared to conventional coal-fired plants, contributing meaningfully to India’s decarbonisation goals and making PPIL a responsible participant in the national energy transition.
